Sauda Jazzmin

Born in the foothills of the 'Rooftop of Africa', Tanzania's majestic Mt Kilimanjaro, Sauda Jasmine Simba's love for music began in her early years, avidly listening to the likes of legendary African American artists Otis Redding, Aretha Franklin and Gladys Knight and the Pips.

While studying in Ireland in her early 20's Sauda gravitated to jazz and blues, a logical progression in hindsight. Unknown to her at the time, jazz was to become her real passion.

One of the major influences on Sauda was Billie Holiday, whose music and history had a profound impact on her and led to the formation of the jazz band Cheza.

As Cheza's vocalist, she performed at a range of venues throughout Dublin, she was described by an admirer as 'the sort of girl who kept Billie Holiday alive'. In a review in After Hours, Sauda was described as 'a singer who sang with an ease, a confidence and a joy'. Selected to perform at the Natinal Concert Hall with the Irish Jazz Youth Orchestra, The Irish Times described her rendition of Summertime as 'lightly sang, clearer than most bells'

Having spent a number of years abroad, Sauda returned to her beloved homeland and Tanzania's sea side city of Dar es Salaam. Now a successful career woman and mother of daughter Maya, Sauda's enduring empathy for jazz has thankfully evolved into 'Simply Jazzmin'.
