Live With Pride
The Golden Pride Childrens Choir
The Golden Pride Children's Choir
The Golden Pride Childrens Choir is a group of 42 children from a remote village in Tanzania, East Africa. Their voices have taken them from their village to an international stage in London. In 2003 the choir produced their first CD, Mapambano. They performed at the 2004 WOMAD Festival of World Music in the UK. The trip was funded solely on donations and was the subject of a documentary From Rags To Rhapsody.
In March 2006, the choir travelled to Australia and performed at several venues in Perth, at WOMADelaide in Adelaide, the Commonwealth Games Cultural Festival in Melbourne and recorded their second CD 'Live With Pride', released in June 2006. Funds raised on the Australian tour are now going towards building a much needed secondary school in their village.
Live With Pride - All music and lyrics on this album, with the exception of 'Malaika', are written by the choir's humble, unsung genius and choirmaster, Peter Charles.
The choir was also privileged to share the studio with the latest jazz voice to emerge from East Africa, Sauda Jazzmin, in the Swahili love song Malaika.
The album title doesn't refer to a particular song but rather conveys the message that regardless of a person's socio-economic back ground, HIV status, physical or psychological impairment, we all have a place on this planet and a basic human right to live life with pride and dignity.
Make yourself comfortable and escape for a moment with East Africa's unique choral experience.
