Mapambano
The Golden Pride Childrens Choir
In 2003, three school choirs came together to form the Golden Pride Children's Choir. Forty six children in number, they sing home grown songs about their environment, experiences, hopes for the future and their joy of being Tanzanian. The choir teachers, one from each school, are responsible for the lyrics, melodies and harmonies and together they have merged their genius into one, resulting in an experience of traditional choral pleasure.
The album title 'Mapambano', in Kiswahili, means struggle. In 'Kuyaanza Mapambano' the children recognise their generation is compelled to continue the struggle for social development, education and poverty alleviation in their country.
The voices you will hear and feel are uniquely African, unquestionably Tanzanian. Please immerse yourself in the unspoilt enthusiasm of young Tanzanians singing from their hearts.
The Golden Pride Children's Choir appeared at the WOMAD festival at Reading in 2004.
